MALDIVES

How many times have you daydreamed about strolling down the dock towards your private thatched overwater bungalow, pale green waters lapping up against your personal platform, the sun gleaming overhead? The Maldives is a relatively new destination with the first resort opening up in 1972. It was a group of young, ambitious Maldivians that brought their vision to life and helped transform this sleepy string of fishing islands into one of the world’s most coveted destination hotspots.

Best Time to Visit

The Maldives has three distinctly different seasons. The absolute best time to visit the Maldives for optimum weather is December to February. Travelers can enjoy no rain, perpetual blue skies, and low humidity. If you’re a heat-seeker, shoulder season runs from March to April, promising hotter weather, higher humidity, and great surf conditions. The low season runs from May to November and while the weather is still warm, this time of year also brings rain and stormy skies.

Highly Recommended Experiences

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit his island pearl sort of depends on how adventurous you’re willing to be. The coolest and most popular months are June through to October. These months bring both bright, sunny days but they also bring the southeast trade winds complete with stormy days and turbid water at times. The hottest (and rainiest) months run from December to April, with April being a great month to visit because of thinner crowds and endless sunny days.

Highly Recommended Experiences

  • Dine on Poisson Cru, fresh lagoon fish cooked in coconut milk and lime
